When discussing niches in photography, targeting the children based field can be extremely popular, as mentioned the sports activities. My son has pictures for every sport he plays, including team pictures. If you can strike a deal with a league, and what the seasons, you can earn a healthy living. Also to think outside the box and offer different items with the same pictures. The trading cards (baseball card) that the kids get of one another is a good example.

Great article, thanks.

In response to Jim Rife's 5/21/07 response, I too am looking for good event photography software. In particular, I want to be able to create borders ahead of time and then at the event shoot and drag and print pictures with the premade borders. I'm also hoping to use my mac laptop. Any suggestion for software is much appreciated. Thanks.

I am looking for Event Photography Software. I want to shoot hooked up to a pc (or laptop) then print immediately (with possibility of some editing such as cropping or adding borders) What do you suggest?

I'm getting closer and closer to comitting more time to pursing my photography career. I've done a few weddings etc. but not consistently. Keep them coming!

I have shot my first foobal season and I see the potential of what you are commenting on. I am in the process of steamlining my workflow, because it is a lot of work.

Just as a note, if you're looking for an online gallery, I've been using Gallery (http://gallery.sf.net) for years and it's been great. It has built-in links to printing services (although I've never used them), and (after a bit of hacking) had it running in a kiosk mode, where people would buy slips with codes on them, then enter those to order prints (it was at a summer camp, and worked fabulously -- I think something like 400 prints went though in the two weeks I was doing it).

Awesome article!

When people think of event photography they usually think of weddings and christenings so mentioning youth football opens up the possibilities immeasurably!
